Part of the story of The Seidr practitioner includes details about her clothes. Part of what she is wearing is a black sheepskin fur lined in cat skin. I am in the process of making a hood. As this story takes place in Greenland, I am using the book "Woven into the Earth," and "Medieval Garments Reconstructed" as a basis for the clothing. While these outfits and accessories are later than the Viking era, they are very closely related to Viking era clothing such as the Hedeby and Moselund tunics and the skjoldehamn hood. The Greenland hoods have lyre pipes (again, a medieval clothing trait) while the Skjoldehamn hood does not.
I am still working on becoming a better seamstress and while I had help with the dress, I did the patterning of the hood by myself (I am very proud). Again, I used the basic pattern from "Medieval Garments Reconstructed." I have been gifted black sheepskin (or it might be calf skin) and I purchased some rabbit fur for the lining. I am using rabbit fur because many people would be squeamish if I used actual cat. I have not completed the final piece yet. I did complete the faux version. I am very proud of it. My next step is to complete the actual hood using the sheepskin and rabbit fur. I will need to sew the rabbit fur together before I can cut it out into the pattern. This will make it a complete piece of fabric to be cut out all at once.
