There are several Greenland Dresses. I have chosen to recreate Dress D10584. All of the dresses are similar in style. They have close fitted bodice and a full skirt. Some appear to have pocket slits while others do not. This Dress was relatively easy to construct after I received assistance in patterning the dress. The dress fits over the head and has tapered inset sleeves. It has a front and back panel that have a slit up the middle for a gore and 2 piece side panel that flare out at the bottom to create a wide skirt base. The seam treatments are the most interesting part of this recreation. Each seam is sewn together multiple times. First the pieces are sewn together with a simple stitch and then the seam is folded over and the edge is sealed with a piece of wool and is couched down to keep the edge from fraying and finally the seam has a "top stitch" along the sewn edge to hold the seam down and provide a small decorative aspect. The most difficult part of sewing this dress together was the sleeves. The sleeves being a cylinder it is difficult to get your hands into the piece to control the needle. This probably took the most time when making the dress.
